GENERAL MEETING

The general meeting of the Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce was called to order by Jerry Vinci at 12:20 with a salute to the flag.  A moment of silence was observed in tribute to our veterans.  Four officers and two trustees were present.

A motion to accept the minutes from the October 14, 2009 meeting was made by Lucille Brule and seconded by Jim Affinito.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP 

Three new membership applications were submitted for approval.

A motion was made by Lucille Brule to accept the new members and seconded by
Karen Austin.

TREASURER’S REPORT

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Denise Brewster.

Checking Account -    $2,308.60
Money Market -         $5,012.37

A motion was made by Vivian Vinci to accept the Treasurer’s report and seconded by Mike Hauck.

BILLS AND COMMUNICATIONS
A.  Bills to be approved for payment were as follows:

1. Web site design and maintenance for 2009               $750.00

2.  Fire Fighter Phil – Ad in Fire Prevention Books       $199.00

A motion to pay the bills was made by Elaine Gordon and seconded by Mike Hauck.

B. Communications
       1.  Blythe Bedell introduced the TREPS program which is to take place this Spring in the Butler School system.  It is a program which teaches students the basics of business ownership.
       2.  The Riverdale Art Center (RAC) grand opening was observed on 11/07/09.

C. Committee Reports
 Nominating Committee – Based on interest expressed by the incumbent Trustees, Howard Ball and Bill Stanton, Lina Pagliarulo indicated both would like to serve an additional term.  Michael Hauck is to serve as a no vote alternative to the Trustees.  Lina Pagliarulo placed a motion to accept the Trustees.  Lucille Brule moved to second the motion.   The Trustee term is set to expire December 31, 2011.

OLD BUSINESS

Jerry Vinci reminded attendees to take advantage of the member to member discounts available on our website www.triborochamber.org

NEW BUSINESS

  1. The drawing for the annual raffle to benefit our Scholarship fund was held at 1:00PM

  1. The election of Four officers, President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer was held. K.C. Smith moved that the Secretary nominate all incumbent officers to serve additional one year terms. Karen Austin seconded the motion.

  1. Jerry Vinci suggested a tribute to Howard Ball naming him as “Man of the Year”.
    Dave Warfield moved to accept the motion.  Lucille Brule seconded.
  1. The “Toys for Tots” train was scheduled to stop at Butler on 12/13/09.
  1. Contact Elaine Gordon for information on Free Alzheimer Screening.
  1. See Ed Morba for information on the Kinnelon Optimist Club’s Beefsteak Dinner to be held on 01/30/10.  Tickets are $45.00 each.

3.  Annual Hosting Fee for Chamber Website                              $157.50

A motion to pay the bills was made by Ed Morba and seconded by Mike Hauck.

B. Communications
       1.  A request has been received from Elaine Gordon of Griswold Special Care to speak on home care at an upcoming meeting.
       2.  Donna Montfelt of Space Stor Self Storage has volunteered to serve on the Chamber Fundraising Committee.

C. Committee Reports
            1.  Jim Murasko spoke of the importance of the Fundraising Committee.  Chamber members Linda Lee Sokerka and Kristen Totaro volunteered to join Jim Murasko and Donna Montfelt as committee members.  Jim mentioned prior fundraising activities such as Golf Outings and “Mini” Golf Outings.  Jim Murasko asked the membership to continue to focus on the importance of committee participation. In specific, he asked attendees to consider supporting the Fundraising, Website Development and Program and Publicity Committees.

  1. Jerry Vinci introduced Mike Hauck as the new chairperson of the Website Development Committee.   Jerry Vinci discussed looking into the possibility of offering website advertising space to Chamber members for a fee. 

George Brewster suggested offering links to legislators.   

  1. Bill Stanton will, again, chair the Scholarship Committee.  A request was made for Chamber members from each of the four towns we serve to assist him in this important work.
  1. Howard Ball will remain the chairperson of the Program and Publicity Committee.  Karen Austin and Lina Pagliarulo have offered to assist him.
  1. The Membership Committee will be chaired by Karen Austin.

OLD BUSINESS

Jerry Vinci reminded attendees to take advantage of the member to member discounts available on our website www.triborochamber.org.  In addition, he mentioned the website feature which permits members to update their information on the site. 

NEW BUSINESS

A.  The Chamber Member Spotlight was reinstated.  The purpose of the Spotlight is to provide a Chamber member with an opportunity to give a two minute commercial to the group.

 1.  The guidelines for the Spotlight were are as follows. 
a. A drawing will be held at the meeting to determine the speaker for the following month. 
b. A member must be in attendance in order participate.
c. Each business represented at a meeting may place the business card of only one representative in the drawing.
d. The speaker for the current meeting will draw the card to determine the speaker for the next.
e. Each business/individual member may only be “Spotlighted” once per calendar year.

  1. The speaker in the Spotlight for January was Lina Pagliarulo of Lina’s Restaurant.
  2. Lina selected the business card of Vivian Vinci from Acu-Data Business Products.  Vivian will appear in February’s Spotlight.

CHAMBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Lina Pagliarulo of Lina’s Restaurant provided a “sample” Spotlight presentation.  She mentioned a Chamber member discount offered at her restaurant.  Chamber members are able to purchase gift certificates for half price from Lina.

CHAMBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Jerry Vinci talked about his business Acu-Data which was started in 1978. Along with commercial printing, Acu-Data also carries an extensive line of promotional products.

GUEST SPEAKER- ELAINE GORDON-GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE
Elaine Gordon talked about the benefits of Griswold Special Care which has been in existence since 1982 . A non-medical home care organization, Griswold provides companionship, personal care, and homemaking services.  
Elaine described the extensive screening process of their caregivers and the monitoring of their assignments after they are placed. Day time care, night time care, overnight care and live-in care are available at affordable rates.

The general meeting of the Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce was called to order by Jerry Vinci at 12:20 with a salute to the flag.  Four officers and three trustees were present.

  APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE MAY 12 , 2010 MEETING

A motion to approve the minutes was made by Lucille Brule and seconded by Dave Warfield.

 TREASURER’S REPORT

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Denise Brewster.

A motion was made by Helyne Oberndorf to accept the Treasurer’s report and seconded by Vivian Vinci.

A motion to approve payment of the bills was made by Lucille Brule and seconded by Jim LaSala.

B. Communications
       1.  A letter was received from Tri County Chamber of Commerce announcing the Retirement of Kathe Crimmins.  Replacing her as President will be Caryn Luberto.
2.  A letter was received from Steve and Donna Montfelt of Space Stor Self Storage informing the Chamber of the sale of Space Stor to another entity.  The Montfelts will no longer represent the facility as Chamber Members.                                                                                                                                                              
      
C. Committee Reports
 Fundraising Committee – Jim Murasko informed attendees of an upcoming Chamber fundraiser to be held on Thursday, September 23rd from 7-9PM at Gary’s Wine & Marketplace, 1308 Route 23, Wayne  NJ. The cost for this fundraiser will be $20.00 per person. The event was organized by Kristen Totaro.

Jim reminded attendees of the distribution of raffle tickets at the September 8th meeting.  The raffle will be held on November 10th, 2010.

NEW BUSINESS

The Scholarship Committee Report was presented on behalf of Bill Stanton by Chamber President, Jerry Vinci, who commented on this year’s recipients.  Jerry noted that all were involved in Community Service.

Scholarships were presented to the following individuals.

CHAMBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

The 5 minute spotlight was held by Kristen Totaro of N2 Publishing. She informed the group as to how local community publications can be a unique way for businesses to reach community members.  Kristen selected the business card of Karen Austin of Valley National Bank who will be spotlighted at the September 8th meeting.

GENERAL MEETING

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP

One new membership application was received from iCentral Ophthalmology, P.C., Michele Gatto, MD.  A motion to approve this membership was made by Bill Stanton and seconded by Lucille Brule.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE APRIL 14, 2010 MEETING

The April 14th meeting minutes were amended to reflect Coldwell Banker as the proper company represented by Lucille Brule.  A motion to approve the minutes was made by KC Smith and seconded by Bill Stanton.

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Denise Brewster.

 Fundraising Committee – Jim Murasko presented the current fundraiser to the attendees.  Growing Kids/Renewal will be partnering with the Chamber in a Fundraiser at the store running from June 1st through June 8th.

Tri-Boro Area Chamber kicks off the fall season this month!

Thank you to all who attended our first meeting back from summer session. We had a great turnout.

C.  Chamber President, Jerry Vinci urged members to visit other clubs when traveling on vacation or business.  He recounted his visits, this Summer, to the Cooperstown NY Chamber of Commerce and Bermuda Chamber of Commerce.

CHAMBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

The 5 minute spotlight was held by Karen Austin, Branch Sales Manager for Valley National Bank in Butler. She informed the group about the Bank’s low residential mortgage rates and $499 refinance program. In addition, she let attendees know about Valley’s business line of products.  Finally, she informed the group about Valley National Bank’s affiliation with Elavon. Elavon works directly with Valley customers to handle all of their merchant card processing needs.  Karen selected the business card of Helyne Czajkowski of The Health Center at Bloomingdale who will be spotlighted at the October 13th meeting.

This months meeting will has an anticipated large turnout and we welcome all of you to join us!

November 10 we have a very special guest speaker. Carl Rotans from Puppies Behind Bars will be joining us.

Puppies Behind Bars is an organization that uses prison inmates to raise & train puppies as service dogs for the disabled. "Dog Tags" is the program that trains puppies to help disabled veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

We are asking people to register and pay in advance since we expect a large turnout. The luncheon is $15.00. And, Our speaker is bringing a special guest with him!

IMPORTANT NEWS FOR NOVEMBER

In addition to a very special guest speaker, November's meeting will also include some very important chamber events. Please let us know if you plan to attend the November meeting. This meeting we will be presenting:

1.  A letter received from Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen was read to the group.  It addressed Bill H.R. 5141 “Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act”.
2.  An invitation to attend Kinnelon Mayor Glenn Sisco’s retirement dinner has been forwarded to Chamber Members.  Tickets are available through the Kinnelon Borough Clerk’s office.
3.  Members were made aware of the relocation of Tri County Chamber’s office to Fairfield Commons.

C. Committee Reports

  1. Fundraising Committee – Jim Murasko reminded attendees of the availability of raffle tickets.  The drawing for the annual 200 Club Raffle will be held on November 10th, 2010.  Proceeds benefit scholarship recipients.
  2. Nominating Committee
  3. KC Smith listed individuals expressing interested in running for position of Trustee.  So far, Mike Hauck and Lucille Brule are new to the slate.
  4. KC Smith moved that nominations be left open until the November 10th meeting in order to permit as much time as possible for all entrants. Brandon Ciercielli seconded the motion which was approved.
  5. Program and Publicity Committee – Karen Austin made attendees aware of a special event, to be held at our November 10th meeting, in honor of Veterans’ Day. Carl Rotans of Puppies Behind Bars will be our Guest Speaker.  Puppies Behind Bars is a nonprofit organization that trains prison inmates to raise puppies to become service dogs for the disabled and explosive detection canines for law enforcement.  “Dog Tags” is the program that provides service dogs to disabled veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.  Visit their website: www.puppiesbehindbars.com for more information.

Helyne informed the group of the various services offered by The Health Center at Bloomingdale such as long term care, rehabilitation, respite care and hospice.  She also made the attendees aware of the community service involvement of the Center and its employees.  In addition, she was please to report the Center had received an “excellent” survey.  Helyne selected the business card of Gordon Stone of Home Energy Matters who will be spotlighted at the November 10th meeting.

He explained all about Puppies Behind Bars, an organization that uses prison inmates to raise & train puppies as service dogs for the disabled. "Dog Tags" is the program that trains puppies to help disabled veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

We even got to meet one of the dogs in training Frieda who was a beautiful dog and an absolute pleasure to be aroud during the meeting.

We wish Carl and the rest of the Puppies Behind Bars program the best of luck and encourage everyone to make donations and keep this program going to assist our veterans who are in the greatest of need.
