Monthly Meeting - January 13, 2016

Please join us Wednesday, January 13 at 11:45 pm at Lina's Restaurant for our monthly meeting.

This month we have a wonderful guest speaker lined up to kick off 2016! Please help us welcome Tommy Hilcken of Tommy's Toolbox who will be discussing how "Attitude Drives Revenue."

We had such a wonderful turnout for our holiday luncheon. Thank you so much to all who attended. We had over 40 attendees this year. We look forward to a bright and productive 2016!

GENERAL MEETING
The meeting was called to order at 12:28 p.m. by Jamie Certosimo with a salute to the flag.
Each member was given one minute to tell us about their businesses.

 

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP
There were four new applications for memberships. Gene Bohensky of The Alternative Board, Alex Belgard of The Belgard Agency, Ronald Scaloce of RJS Contruction, Inc. and Stu Feldman of tecHHoma Computer Services.  Jerry Vinci of ACU-DATA BUSINESS PRODUCTS made a motion to approve the four new applicants’ memberships and it was seconded by Beverly Sullivant of REFORMED CHURCH OF KINNELON

COMMUNICATIONS
Helyne Czajkowski of The Health Center at Bloomingdale invited the entire Tri-Boro Chamber of Commerce to the health center’s Perfect Survey and Twenty Year Anniversary Celebration, Thursday, January 21’st from 4:30p to 7pm.  It is FREE and will be located at their location, 255 Union Avenue, Bloomingdale, NJ. If interested one must RSVP to 973-283-1700.
Stu Feldman of tecHHoma Computer Services informed the chamber members about the Highlands Savings Card.  For more information one can visit NJheat.org.

OLD BUSINESS
Jaime Certosimo AAMCO TRANSMISSONS president of the chamber reminded the Chamber members of the Member to Member discounts, the Chamber’s website www.triborochamber.org, Chamber advertising opportunities with the Suburban Trends and our Facebook page.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 Jaime Certosimo  of AAMCO TRANSMISSONS told the chamber members about the multi chamber business card exchange hosted on 11/20/15 at Route 23 Buffet.  He said it was attended by 59 people from area chambers and the net profit for our chamber was $342.50.  The next multi chamber will be held in nine months and will be sponsored by the West Milford Chamber of Commerce.

NEW BUSINESS
Jaime Certosimo  of AAMCO TRANSMISSONS announced two events being hosted by the Tri-County Chamber of Commerce.  January 14th they are having a monthly luncheon at Bahama Breeze and January 28th they will be hosting a Bowling Night at T-Bowl Lanes. Information on both of these events will be available both on our website and Facebook page.

SPOTLIGHTSPEAKERS
Next month’s meeting spotlight speakers will be Elisa DeChristina of Glow House Kids, LLC and Stu Feldman of tecHHoma Computer Services.

At 1:03pm a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by  Lucille Brule’ of COLDWELL BANKER and, Lina Paglirulo of Lina’s Restaurant seconded the motion.

We were lucky to have two guest speakers at our February meeting. Elisa DeChristina of Glow House Kids, LLC and Stu Feldman of tecHHoma Computer Services gave our attendees very initeresting presentations. Thank you for taking the time to present and we look forward to your next presentation!

We held a 50/50 raffle during our monthly meeting as well. Gene Bohensky of The Alternative Board of Northern NJ took home the prize of $42.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions updated the members of the changes happening to the chamber’s website.  The day after the current meeting is finished the posting of the next meeting will be available on the website and will include guest speakers.  The minutes taken at the current meeting will be up on the website prior to the next meeting.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

FACEBOOK –Chairman Lisa Bendel of Park Lane Jewelry encouraged members to sign up for Facebook to receive information about the chamber and the community.

WELCOME – Chairman Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions. Has been reaching out to visitors who come to chamber meetings and is following up after the meetings.

FUNDRAISING – Chairman Jim Murasko of Allstate Insurance. Jim is looking for some fundraising suggestions from the members. He discussed the options for some of the programs offered by local restaurants like Wendy’s. The return on that type of fundraising would be very small. Kenny Cords of Jimmy Geez talked about a fundraising option that would give the chamber a larger return.

SCHOLARSHIP – Chairman Jerry Vinci of Acu-Data Business Products explained the scholarship criteria to the new members and mentioned that the recipients would be announced at the May meeting.

PROGRAM – Jessica Ballew of Columbia Bank chairman of the committee invited the borough clerks from the four towns we serve to speak at the May meeting.

NOMINATING/ELECTIONS - Chairman Beverly Sullivant of the Reformed Church in Kinnelon explained the process of electing officers and trustees. Officers are elected for one year and trustees for two years. All of the officers are up for reelection and two of the trustees (Lucille Brule and Lina Pagliarulo) are up for reelection. Anyone wishing to run for any of these offices should contact Beverly. Names will be placed in nomination at our October 12 meeting and the election will take place at the November 9 meeting.

MEMBERSHIP – Chairman Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions has been visiting new businesses and inviting them to a chamber meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Vivian Vinci of Acu-Data Business Products told chamber members about the Bloomingdale Public Library’s 90th Anniversary celebration. The library is publishing an ad book that will be given out to those attending their dinner and to library patrons. They are looking for ads from local businesses and organizations.
Vivian Vinci of Acu-Data Business Products made a motion to take a $35.00 full page chamber ad, 2nd by Lucille Brule of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.

Lucille Brule of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Butler is collecting food for the Butler Food Pantry. Friday April 15 is the deadline for donations.

Shelli Taggart of Butler Recreation told chamber members about upcoming events in Butler. On May 7 there will be a “Fishing Rally” at Stonybrook Swim Club.
The Recreation Department will also sponsor  Butler Day on Saturday, May 28. Businesses and organizations can buy table space to promote their goods and services. Visit their website www.butlerrecreation.com for more information.

A motion was made by Jim Murasko of Allstate Insurance to purchase 3 tables at Butler Day and 2nd by Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions. The space can accommodate 10 vendors. Members can purchase a space from the chamber at a discounted price. Spaces are first come first serve.

Tri-County Chamber is sponsoring a chamber networking lunch at Bahama Breeze in Wayne on April 14.

SPOTLIGHT SPEAKERS

Lindsey Sass of NJ Healing Center – Lindsey discussed healing therapies available at the center. She discussed the benefits of meditation techniques for improved health.

Jim Murasko of Allstate Insurance – Allstate offers insurance for autos, boats, homes, condos, renters, businesses and life insurance at competitive rates. Jim discussed the importance of having the right type of insurance for your needs.

50/50 raffle was $53.00 and won by Diane Gelfand of  Realty Executives.

At 1:30 pm a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Beverly Sullivant of the Reformed Church in Kinnelon and 2nd by Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions

At our May meeting, we had two guest speakers from our local communities.

Mary O’Keefe clerk of Butler and Jane McCarthy clerk of Bloomingdale informed all members that the deadline to register to vote for the primaries is 5/13/16. Mary O’Keefe informed the members of some upcoming events in Butler such as "Butler Day" being held on 5/28/16, a Memorial Day Parade held on 5/30/16 and other current and future events which can be found at www.butlerborough.com

Jane McCarthy, Clerk of Bloomingdale, talked to the members about the Quarry Expansion works and Bloomingdale Pride day being held September 24th.  Bloomingdale Library is celebrating its 90th Anniversary and holding a dinner and celebrating two books all about Bloomingdale that are available at the library. Jane also mentioned that Welcome packets are mailed to all new Bloomingdale residents.  For more information about current and future events visit the Bloomingdale borough’s website www.bloomingdalenj.net.

During the meeting we held a 50/50 raffle won by Elisa DeChristina of Glow House Kids and welcomed three new members to our chamber!

The meeting was called to order at 12:26 p.m. by Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions with a salute to the flag. Members were asked to silence their phones.  A roll call of officers and introduction of members was then completed.

COMMUNICATIONS
Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions informed the chamber members of the following upcoming events, Butler Day May28th from 3pm-10pm with a raindate of 5/29/16 and that there are spots available to promote your business’.  Ridgewood Chamber is having a Speed Networking Event May 17th from 6pm-8pm.  At the grand opening of Butler Realty Executive Diane Gelfand raised $66.00 that was donated to the Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber is working on a mixer to be held at Jimmy Geez date to be determined.  Kenny Cords of Jimmy Geez  told the chamber members that they will be holding an event where they will be donating 10% of all checks to be donated to our Chamber from open to close.  Frank Elia of Sherwin Williams informed the chamber of their grand opening being held Saturday, May 14th were they will be having refreshments and lots of fun not to mention 40% off all paints and stains.  Helyne Czajkowski of The Health Center at Bloomingdale announced that they will be hosting a free breakfast and bingo being held the third Monday of every month at 255 Union Avenue, Bloomingdale starting at 9:15am.  Lisa Bendel of Park Lane Jewelry invited all members to her Sip and Style event she was holding at Lina’s Restaurant that evening, doors open at 6:30pm. Sarah Greulich of American Cancer Socierty informed the members of two Relay for Life events being held on 6/4 &6/11 where chambers members would have advertisement opportunities.

OLD BUSINESS
 A member to member discount sheet was handed out and Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions asked all members to review and to email him if any changed need be to be made.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
FACEBOOK –Chairman Lisa Bendel of Park Lane Jewelry encouraged members to sign up for Facebook to receive information about the chamber and the community. Also Stu Feldman of tecHHoma was working on a second page for Board members.

SCHOLARSHIP – Chairman Jerry Vinci of Acu-Data Business Products announced the 2016 scholarship winners, Bloomingdale- Jonathan Timpanaro, Butler- Matt Schumacher, Kinnelon- Drew Sabo and Riverdale- Harlee York.

NEW BUSINESS
2017 Special Event- Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions told the members of a Restaurant Week the chamber will be working on for 2017.
Sharon Pupel was introduced by Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions and explained to the members that she will be helping to promote and expand the chamber with her 20 plus years of marketing and sales background.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Jessica Ballew resigned as treasurer of the Chamber effective immediately.  Jerry Vinci of Acu-Data Business Products made a motion for Bill Stanton of Columbia Bank to fill in as treasurer for the remainder of this year. The motion was 2nd by Lucille Brule of Coldwell Banker.

Beverely Sullivant of the Reformed Church of Kinnelon also the nominating committee chair informed the chamber members that all four board seats president, vice president, treasurer and secretary are up for election for one year terms ending 12/31/2017.  Also two trustee positions are up for two year terms ending 12/31/2018.  All members are encouraged to read the bylaws to see if they meet the requirements if interested in running for any spots.  Please see Beverely Sullivant of the Reformed Church of Kinnelon if you wish to run before our October meeting.  Email blasts will go out to all members regarding the elections.

Chamber Mixer – Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions informed the Chamber members that the mixer at Jimmy Geez’s will most likely be late October and announcements of the date will soon follow.

COMMUNICATIONS
Thank you letters were from three of our 2016 scholarship recipients were read by scholarship committee members.
Jamie Certosimo of Aamco Transmissions discussed changing the spotlight speakers from 3 to 4 speakers and also changing the venue of the meetings in November, February, and April.  Also the raffle we have for our scholarship program will be changed to March. An updated membership listing was distributed to all chamber members

Debbie Antonowich of Mary Kay Cosmetics Debbie talked about skin care products for men as well as women. Gift packages for the holidays are available. She also mentioned that Mary Kay products are sold in 35 countries.
George Verile of Only the Best Carpet Care George is a long-time carpet cleaning expert. Hot water steam extraction is used to clean carpets. Specific cleaning solutions are used for specific carpet stains.
Ken Ginefra of GCS Consultants IT support and trouble shooting experts. GCS services many small businesses. Ken discussed security issues and the benefit of using different passwords for different sites. Internet password managers are available to help keep passwords safe and available. Some are free and some charge a fee.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Beverely Sullivant of the Reformed Church of Kinnelon also the nominating committee chair informed the chamber members that all four officer positions , president, vice president, treasurer and secretary are up for election for one year terms ending 12/31/2017.  Also two trustee positions are up for two year terms ending 12/31/2018.  All members are encouraged to read the bylaws to see if they meet the requirements if interested in running for any spots.  Please see Beverely Sullivant of the Reformed Church of Kinnelon if you wish to run before our November meeting.  Email blasts will go out to all members regarding the elections. Jerry Vinci further clarified the eligibility of members seeking office as explained in the chamber by-laws. Nominations and election will be held at the November meeting.

Jeanine Ferguson of Griswold Home Care, Bloomingdale, NJ talked about the services offered: Companion care, homemaking services,personal care and many more. Griswold serves Passaic, Sussex & Morris counties.

In addition to the wonderful presentations given by our spotlight speakers, we especially would like to thank our guest speaker, Steven Fishman of Norwood Financial Group who discussed Business Continuation as well as the process of planning for an exit strategy for business owners (especially those "closely held" or family owned) as well as pre-arranging ownership of a company to avoid legal battles.

Thank you to all our members who attended our November meeting. November's meeting is always one of great importance for us as we elect our officers and trustees for the following year. All of our nominees were elected by a unanimous vote of our members.

COMMITTEE REPORTS- ELECTION OF OFFICERS & TRUSTEES
Beverly Sullivant of the Reformed Church of Kinnelon placed the following names in nomination for 2017 officers and trustees. Officers:  President Jamie Certosimo, Vice President, Lisa Bendel, Secretary, Helyne Czajkowski, Treasurer, Bill Stanton.Trustees: Lina Pagliarulo and Lucille Brule. All were elected by unanimous vote of the membership.

COMMUNICATIONS
Holiday luncheon & grab bag. Vivian Vinci of Acu-Data Business Products Inc. informed the members about the holiday luncheon on December 14 at Lina’s. It will be a fun time for socializing and everyone was encouraged to bring a co-worker, friend or family. There will be a special buffet that includes wine. Lunch is $15.00. Members can bring a wrapped grab bag gift costing no more than $5.00-$6.00 if they wish.

Jamie mentioned the Ringwood Multi-Chamber Dinner & Networking event on November 10.

Jimmy Geez Sports Bar & Grill Mixer - Tuesday, January 17, 2018,– Flyers will be distributed for this event and must be presented at the door.Cost is $20.00.
