Thanks so much for sharing this update with us Jalyn. We are proud of your accomplishments and wish you much continued success!
Hi, this is Jalyn Lovejoy, I won the scholarship last year, and wanted to give you an update of how I was doing. As it is, I’ve just finished my first semester at Centenary College with a 3.6 GPA. I’ve had my first fashion show, which was fun! But all together college is a blast. I’ve made so many friends, especially with twins for some reason (I attract them lol). So I wanted to again extend my gratitude of the finances that you’ve supplied me! It really has helped as fabric and patterns for my fashion design classes are expensive. Thank you again so much! I hope you all continue to provide such a wonderful opportunity for others to come who become the next lawyer, teacher, or even president
Sincerely,
Jalyn Lovejoy

...Dear Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce,
My name is Amy Endres, and your organization was kind enough to award me a scholarship last year towards my education. I apologize for my delay in writing in thanks and reflection, but I think this is as good a time as any to truly express my gratitude.
Fordham is a place that I simply would not be able to attend if not for scholarships, but I cannot imagine myself elsewhere. I am nearly a declared biology major, within the pre-health track. I was also fortunate to be accepted to their Honors Program, which is comprised 36 students of the over 1,500-person freshman class. It's a wonderful community with some of the best faculty teaching my liberal arts classes. I ended my first semester with a 3.78 GPA, of which I am very proud.
Again, thank you for the kindness you shared with me at the end of my senior year. If ever I can help with something, please don't hesitate to let me know! I hope you are all well, and I wish you the very best for the next year!
Sincerely,
Amy Endres

...Dear Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce Members,
I received your scholarship upon graduation from Butler High School in 2011. I know that many students do not keep you updated on their progress throughout college; however, I did not want to be one of those individuals.
I am currently in my third year at Stonehill College still majoring in Political Science, and recently adding Economics to that! I was hesitant to double major but overall I am quite satisfied with my decision. While I am still at Stonehill, I am studying abroad for the semester at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy. So far, the experience has been absolutely incredible. From the pasta to the cappuccinos to the welcoming environment, it will be extremely difficult to come home. I will be traveling to Morocco, Prague, and Budapest while I am here in Rome. My first trip is at the end of October, so it is coming up quite quickly.
This past summer I worked for Assemblyman Scott T. Rumana in Wayne, New Jersey, as a Legislative Aide and as an intern in the finance department on the reelection campaign for Chris Christie. I am trying to figure out what I want to do, so the different experiences are guiding my into the direction I believe that I want to go into.
I hope all is well with the Chamber of Commerce. I cannot thank you all enough for the scholarship you gave me. I am honored to be one of the recipients, and I will make sure to keep you notified how my life continues throughout my college years.
Thank you again,
Hayley Conklin

The Pompton Lakes/Riverdale First Aid Squad and the Riverdale, Pompton Lakes, Pequannock and Bloomingdale fire departments all assisted to put out the fire that broke out on Feb. 10.
RIVERDALE - The community has been asked to come to the aid of a family during a time of need. Friends and the Pequannock Rotary both started funds to assist the Negrini family, who lost their home due to a house fire on Feb. 10.
Fire Chief Mike Norton said that the house was left unlivable.
Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Norton said it originated in the kitchen and spread to the second level of the home.
“The whole home received damage. Part of the home was fire damaged, the whole home was smoke and heat damaged and there was quite a lot of water damage,” said the chief.
To initially help out, a clothing drive was started the night of the tragic fire. Within hours, residents from Riverdale and Pompton Lakes sent lots of clothing and household materials to the Riverdale Community Center.
“We got an overwhelming response for the clothes,” said friend of the Negrini family, Pan Sylvestri. “It took us an entire day to go through everything.”
Sylvestri said the family couldn’t express enough gratitude towards the response from the community.
Monetary contributions are also being accepted. Friends got together and established a fund at the Lakeland in Bloomingdale and the Pequannock Rotary also set up a separate fund for the family.
Sylvestri said the family is doing well. “They are holding it together as best as can be expected.”
They are currently living in an apartment in the borough. “They wanted to be able to keep the kids in their everyday routine,” said Sylvestri.
The homeowners, Symone and Fab Negrini, have four small children. None of them were at the house when the fire broke out.
Riverdale Police Captain John Peine said there were 12 pets inside, three dogs, four cats, three birds and two ferrets but only two of the dogs survived.
The fire chief credited the FIT-5 device for saving the lives of the two dogs, Judge and Chaos.
When thrown into a room, “It dramatically reduces the temperature in a structure, within a couple seconds you can dramatically see the difference in the change of the smoke color and the flames dissipate for a little while,” said the chief.
Norton said when the FIT-5 was first tossed inside the house, one dog (Judge) was found immediately.
Family friend Judy Grecco said, “Judge had burns and smoke inhalation and Chaos, who was found an hour and half after the fire started, she was found in the basement swimming in the water. She did not suffer from any burns, but she did get hyperthermia and smoke inhalation. Both dogs are still hospitalized.”
Peine said both the Riverdale and Pompton Lakes police departments responded to the site within minutes and the Riverdale Fire Department was there not long after.
The Pompton Lakes Riverdale First Aid Squad along with the Pompton Lakes, Pequannock and the Bloomingdale fire departments all responded to the fire.
The firefighters did encounter some difficulty on the second level of the home, but they were able to get the fire under control within 50 minutes, the chief said.
“On the second floor, the firefighters felt it was unsafe because some of the flooring had holes in it (from the fire). So with the fire still going and the smoke condition, it was pretty bad. We weren’t able to put the firefighters where we really needed to have them, so we had to work most of the fire from outside the structure and that did make it difficult for us,” said Norton.
Those interested in giving a monetary contributions can send them to either: the Pequannock Rotary, C/O Borough of Riverdale, P.O. Box 6, Riverdale, NJ 07457 and note ‘Negrini’ on the check; or send it in care of the ‘Negrini Family Fire Fund’ to the Lakeland Bank, 28 Main St., Bloomingdale, NJ 07403.

Thank you for all who attended our march meeting. We would like to thank Pat Clearly, the Riverdale Fire Chief for his interesting presentation on fire safety. He also spoke about businesses installing DOUBLE KEY LOCK BOXES on the outside of their buildings. Entry to this lock box would require a key from the local fire department and a separate key from the local police.
Inside the lock box, all businesses should keep:
By following these suggestion your business can avoid unnecessary damage caused by police and fire departments, who have no alternative in most cases, but to break down a door or window.
As a local representative of the business community, the Tri-Boro Area Chamber is currently looking into opportunities to work with both the fire and police departments in our boroughs to learn more about lockbox purchase and installation. As a source of revenue and incentive for new, prospective, and current members, we are also looking into the possibility of becoming a distributor of the lock boxes, purchasing in bulk, which will be a cost savings to all of you. Once we have all the information in place, we will report back to our members.

...WE WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME THE FOLLOWING NEW MEMBERS TO THE TRI-BORO AREA CHAMBER:
In an effort to increase networking opportunities and create more of a forum for our members and their businesses we have created two new programs. These will help our members gain exposure, liven up our meetings, and create new opportunities for all our members to network with each other.
BUSINESS SURVIVAL SKILLS
We will begin a new program at this meeting where we will hold a two minute drill where we can hear about some important business survival skills for our businesses.
TOOT YOUR OWN HORN
3 members will be selected each meeting to give a 2 minute commercial to our attendees about their business. We will begin this program by selecting the members from the business cards we will collect from all the members in attendance.
In addition to these two programs, we will give all new members the opportunity to tell us about their business when they attend their first meeting.
...Wednesday, May 13th Senator Richard J. Codey will be our guest speaker for our Monthly Chamber Meeting. Reservations are required for this meeting so please contact us for more information. The meeting will be held at Lina's Restaurant.
...Huge thank you to Angela Kubisky of Amplified Business Connections for a wonderful presentation. Angela spoke about her story of networking and the importance of having others invested in your own success. Angela stresses the value of asking others how you can help them and their business. It’s also important to do your research prior to meeting with someone so you can understand them and know the right questions to ask.
Thank you to all our chamber members and guests who attended the meeting.

...2013 is going to be a great year and we can already tell that our members seem more inspired than ever to turn the Tri-Boro Area Chamber into a better resource and networking tool for all our member. This was evident during our first meeting of 2013 where we held our Speed Networking Session during our luncheon. The meeting was an absolute success! Each chamber member had about 2 minutes to quickly outline what business serivces, products, or programs they provide to their customers.
Networking is a great way to start off the new year since many of our chamber members had no idea what types of businesses some of our members were involved in. The new year is typically when most businesses start fresh or make new connections looking to improve revenue for their company. We are confident that many of the presentations will lead to new networking opportunities and hopefully new customers for their businesses.
We plan to continue offering as many beneficial sessions like this as we can throughout the year so please make an effort to attend and tell all your piers about our great organization!
...November 10 we had a very special guest speaker. Carl Rotans from Puppies Behind Bars joined us and gave a great presentation.
He explained all about Puppies Behind Bars, an organization that uses prison inmates to raise & train puppies as service dogs for the disabled. "Dog Tags" is the program that trains puppies to help disabled veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
We even got to meet one of the dogs in training Frieda who was a beautiful dog and an absolute pleasure to be aroud during the meeting.
We wish Carl and the rest of the Puppies Behind Bars program the best of luck and encourage everyone to make donations and keep this program going to assist our veterans who are in the greatest of need.
...Please mark your calendars for May 18th, 2009. This will be our Annual Golf Outing and our biggest fundraiser. The tournament will be held at Wallkill Country Club and will be here before we know it! Therefore, we will need all the help from our members as we can muster.
All proceeds from this event will benefit our scholarship fund, which provides aid to local high school students who are preparing for college.
Thanks to the success of last year’s outing, four one thousand dollar scholarships will be awarded to students from the four towns we serve: BLOOMINGDALE , BUTLER, KINNELON, and RIVERDALE.
Please Click Here to learn more about the Annual Golf Outing for the Tri-Boro Area Chamber of Commerce to learn more about the event and to print and return the registration form to the chamber.
